Visit to Tayto Park

Mickey Mouse got a theme park rival – and his name is Tayto!

The crisps king has opened up a Disney-style fun park in Ashbourne last November. When I met Mr. Tayto he told me that when he was a young spud, fresh out of the ground, he always dreamt of one day opening his very own park; full of all of his favorite things; good craic, good grub, adventure, nature, animals, a few surprises and of course… us, the Tayto eaters of this great Nation!
You couldn’t come to Tayto Park and not hang out in the Tree House! Well I couldn’t although I would’ve loved it, even for 5 minutes. There aren’t many places where you could grab a tea in a tree! Built in the bows of Grand Old Oakley with platforms, rope bridges and a real Tree House full of sweet treats and home-made ice-cream, it’s a great place to hang out and get a bird’s eye view of Tayto Park.
The best part I loved it was the animals, that’s right Mr.Tayto has his own “safari”! In the pet corner you will find Bantam Chicken, Indian Runner Duck, and Nene Goose. Tayto Plains has rare breed farm animals like, Dexter cattle, Jacob sheep, Vietnamese pot bellied pigs, they even have buffalo’s and you can find them in the Buffalo Ring, Mr. Tayto has told me an interesting story that the Buffalo Ridge at Tayto Park is home for 15 years to Ireland’s first herd of American Bison. Over 20 buffalo roam the plains at Tayto Park; here they graze on the nutritious grasslands. To celebrate the arrival of their bison herd in Ireland they even developed their well known exotic Buffalo flavor crisps, yum yum.
A tipi also spelt te(e)pee) is a conical tent dwelling used by the Native Americans of the Great Plains. They are traditionally made of animal skins or birch bark and in modern times made of canvas.
Each of the Tipi’s in Tayto Park represents six different tribes and feature their tribal colors and decoration. Here just some of them - when you enter a Tipi it is traditional for a visitor to always go to the right. It is considered rude to walk between the center fire and another person. You must walk behind anyone sitting by the fire and they would lean forward to allow you to pass.
After exploring the park with Mr.Tayto, he invited me for a coffee in The Lodge Restaurant for a flavored chat. They also have some shops with some exclusive Tayto clothing, toys and gifts. So there is me and my trip to the lovely Tayto Park off I go to My Cheese & Onion Car Park.

Cheers,
Nora

Smoking on Planes- would you believe it?

I have just read an article on how the US have banned E Cigarettes..
Apparently these are smokeless cigarettes which people had been able to smoke on planes. Some kind of metal device which contains liquid nicotine solution which when heated creates vapour which may be inhaled.
Ha- it seems there is a way around everything these days. Hopefully this E Cigarette will catch on and it'll save everyone going outside in the cold to smoke during parties or on a night out. We're alright thankfully- at the hotel there is an outside patio area which isn't just a pleasant place to sit on a sunny day but also has a heated area for those that get the craving.

St Patrick's Day

I really cant believe that it is the beginning of March tomorrow and I am already being asked to book people in for for St Patrick's Day.

Of course we are going to have the usual Traditional Irish Music in Premier Bar in the Afternoon with Gale Force which is always a hit.
On top of that this year our Bar Staff have come up with a hooray of cocktails to suit the occasion.
For the smaller supporters of our patron saint there is face painting and colouring.
But if you do have suggestions be sure to let us know...

A Happy Valentine's Day indeed

Whilst the rest of us were thanking our lucky stars for all the cards, chocolates and flowers a certain couple were thankful to be alive. Their car was hit by a train yesterday afternoon after a previous driver left the level crossing gate open. Quick thinking saved the day and the couples car was hit at the front only with both of them and the 170 passengers walking away without a scratch.
Now thats a story to tell the grandkids...

The World's first Interactive Cemetery Museum

At the Marketing Agency at the 2011 Satellite Broadband Ireland Digital Media Awards, which were presented at a ceremony in the Convention Centre on Friday evening Martello Media won the Best Digital Design for a project with the Glasnevin Museum.

Martello implemented the world's first interactive cemetery museum, showing the social, historical, political and artistic development of modern Ireland through the seven generations of people buried there. The company took the overall prize as it received most marks from each of the 20 judges.

The Museum- a stone's throw from the Ardmore Hotel is well worth a visit.

Celebrations in Waitangi

This picture was taken in Northland on Waitangi day where people in New Zealand celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Thankfully for St Patrick's Day one of the most popular traditions is to go to the Parade, enjoy the festival and head to the local for a couple of pints of the good stuff.
To wake us up in the afternoon on the 17th of March we have traditional Irish Music in Premier Bar- no swim suits necessary to celebrate here..

Things heating up in the political arena..

With things heating up in the political arena its nice to see that there is a lighter side to it all. Apparently Paddy Power and Assets Model agency are teaming up to see who is the best looking candidate.. The Dail Dudes and Darlings.. For the winner if things don't work out politically they can sign for a contract with Assets Model Agency where the airbrushing wont be on the political posters it will be in magazines and adverts instead.
We have seen our fair share of faces at Election Meetings and 'Think Tanks' here at the Ardmore Hotel over the last few weeks and even months but lets face it with Evening Meeting rooms available from €80.00 for up to a 100 people its not like anyone of the parties can be accused of not being thrifty by booking our meeting rooms...
